Non smetteremo mai di esplorare. E alla fine di tutto il nostro andare ritorneremo al punto di partenza per conoscerlo per la prima volta. [1]
E il mio punto di partenza e’ Milano: cosi’ vicina eppure ancora cosi’ poco conosciuta ed esplorata a causa dei miei pregiudizi da provinciale.
Siamo sovente cosi’ convinti che l’erba del vicino sia sempre piu’ verde che spesso non ci accorgiamo di quanto sia incantevole il nostro giardino, ritenendolo banale e noioso. Aneliamo a Paesi lontani, esotici e misteriosi, ma ci dimentichiamo di quanto spesso proprio la citta’ in cui siamo nati e affondiamo le nostre radici possa sorprenderci e regalarci avventure egualmente indimenticabili.
Un giorno, poco tempo fa, mi sono ritrovata a riflettere sul fatto che in 27 anni non sono mai salita sul Duomo di Milano, che non so nulla della citta’ e della sua storia, perche’ mi ci recavo giusto un paio di volte l’anno per lo shopping…e mi sono vergognata molto.
Da qui e’ nata la voglia irrefrenabile non solo di (ri)scoprire la mia citta’ per la prima volta ma di riportare alla mente tutti gli aneddoti che i miei nonni mi raccontavano su Milano durante le Grandi Guerre o le chicche che ci insegnavano a scuola nelle ore di storia dell’arte e che pochi conoscono.
Dopo qualche giorno di ricerche, letture e riflessioni, accanto alla Milano di cui si parla nei libri di storia, fatta di opere grandiose e musei importanti, si e’ delineata una Milano piu’ intima e segreta, custode di misteri antichi legati a leggende locali e di luoghi nascosti e poco raccontati.
E mi sono ritrovata sorpresa e affascinata proprio da queste piccole e insolite realta’ ed e’ di quest’ultime che voglio scrivere nel mio blog, connettendole tra loro con l’hashtag #isegretidimilano. [2]
Il mio percorso nei segreti di Milano comincia oggi con la meridiana solare posta all’interno del Duomo, emblema per eccellenza del capoluogo lombardo.
Il 12 maggio rappresenta una data importante per la cattedrale milanese per due motivi: il primo e’ che il 12 maggio 1386 vennero ufficialmente iniziati i lavori di quella che poi sarebbe diventata una delle basiliche piu’ maestose del mondo e il secondo e’ che il 12 maggio del 1786, cioe’ esattamente 400 anni dopo, venne costruita una meridiana solare all’interno della medesima struttura ad opera di alcuni astronomi dell’Osservatorio di Brera.
L’introduzione della meridiana aboli’ di fatto l’uso delle ore italiche (di derivazione biblica, con il giorno composto da 24 ore conteggiate a partire dal tramonto), introducendo gli orologi alla francese in cui il nuovo giorno incomincia dalla mezzanotte ed e’ diviso in due parti da 12 ore ciascuna (il sistema attualmente in vigore).
Lo scopo della meridiana era quello di determinare in modo esatto il mezzogiorno solare. Quando questo accadeva veniva tempestivamente informata la torre del vicino Palazzo della Ragione, in Piazza dei Mercanti, che a sua volta dava la notizia al Castello Sforzesco, presso il quale veniva sparato un colpo di cannone per avvisare i milanesi che era mezzogiorno.
La meridiana del Duomo e’ una linea orizzontale di ottone incastonata nel pavimento che percorre la cattedrale da nord a sud, a circa 2 metri dall’ingresso posto su Piazza Duomo, lungo cui si trovano delle formelle marmoree dove sono raffigurati tutti i segni dello zodiaco e le date di ingresso del sole nel relativo segno.
Da un foro circolare (detto foro gnomonico), posto a 24 metri da terra nella volta della navata sud (quindi entrando a destra), un fascio di luce viene proiettato sulla linea meridiana, determinando cosi’ non solo il mezzogiorno solare (quando cioe’ il disco solare proiettato viene tagliato a meta’ dalla meridiana) ma anche il corso annuale del sole da un mese all’altro, spostandosi gradualmente dal Cancro (solstizio estivo) al Capricorno (solstizio invernale o Solstitium Hiemale, dicitura latina riportata sopra al segno zodiacale).
La meridiana del Duomo ha quindi una doppia funzione di orologio e calendario.
Purtroppo l’altezza del foro rese impossibile contenere l’intera linea d’ottone nel pavimento quindi la meridiana venne fatta proseguire sul muro a sinistra fino a 3 metri circa di altezza, dove si trova rappresentato il segno del Capricorno.
Numerosi punti interrogativi, ipotesi e teorie oscure vengono associate alla meridiana solare, velandola di mistero e rendendola percio’ molto interessante.
Ad esempio, stupisce il fatto che un sistema del genere, che fornisce non solo dati astronomici ma anche astrologici (associabili a forme di paganesimo), sia posto all’interno di una chiesa cattolica che si dichiara estranea a questa materia.
Ma il vero enigma ruota attorno al segno zodiacale del Capricorno, l’unico ad essere sulla parete, visibilmente piu’ grande rispetto agli altri e l’unico a non essere stato rimosso 200 anni fa durante i lavori di restauro.
Il Capricorno e’ in primis la forma in cui spesso e’ raffigurato Satana.
Ma, cosa ancora piu’ interessante, era consuetudine inserire in cattedrali gotiche simbologie legate ai Templari e uno degli idoli pagani venerati dai Cavalieri dell’Ordine e utilizzato nei riti di iniziazione era il Bafometto, una sorta di demone cornuto e con la faccia pelosa, proprio come un capricorno.
Coincidenze? Cosa si cela veramente dietro tutti questi simbolismi?
